It’s ingenuity at work, not magic. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Debra Bernier gathers driftwood fragments from her surroundings and crafts them into elaborate sculptures. Her deft hands mold these components into the calm faces of ladies, giving the impression that they could wake up at any time.

Debra reveals, “The little girl in me is still fascinated by the shapes in wood, the sun sparkling on the water, smooth, grey stones, and salty seaweed. Simplicity brings me more happiness than complexity. I hope to share this with others.”
